Does Canon Digital Ixus 85 IS run CHDK ?

Everything camera related. Includes triggers, batteries, power supplies, flatbeds and sheet-feeding scanners, too.

Does Canon Digital Ixus 85 IS run CHDK ?

Post by xavrab » 26 Jul 2017, 06:07

Hi,

I am a French newbie to book scanning.
I would like to build a very very simple single-camera setup.
I happen to already have a Canon Digital Ixus 85 IS.
I have not been able to confirm from the recommended list (http://www.mighty-hoernsche.de/) whether this particular Camera can run CHDK or not ?

Is anybody able to give me a clue ?

Many thanks for your lights !

Best regards

I don't know how you plan to operate your system, but you may not need CHDK. For a single camera system you can operate by just using some sort of mechanical remote shutter trigger. If your camera has a remote trigger option you can use that. Many cameras have a threaded hole in the shutter release button where you can screw in a remote trigger cable. Most point and shoot cameras don't, so that might not help you. There are a number of designs here on DIY Book Scanner that use various methods to trigger the shutter mechanically. Several people have built triggers using bicycle brake components. Look around and you might find a simple method that would do what you need.

If you do use a mechanical release then you just have to transfer the pictures from the camera to the computer the same way you would for general picture taking.

Canon Digital Ixus 85 IS
On http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ it says that your camera is supported if it has either of these firmware versions:
"IXUS85 (SD770): 100a, 100b"

This is the page about your camera (it has different names in different markets)
http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/SD770IS

To check what firmware version your camera has, use the program ACID or (Windows only) CameraVersion. Links to them are in the first blue/purple box here
