Nikon D3200

Post by cgott4242 »

I know it's not cheap ~$700 w/ lens
however it's a DSLR from Nikon w/24MP

Has anyone used it , or can weigh in to how much of an impact it'd have on scanning in general and OCR in particular.

Has anyone tried this camera? I'm very interested in it, but I'm very uncertain as I cannot find any mention of it together with gphoto2. It would be nice to be able to take pictures via usb

I have a D3100. I tried using it to copy about 200 pages out of a paperback. Camera was mounted on a tripod & I used an aftermarket shutter release similar to the one supplied by Nikon. There was nothing elaborate about my method. I had focused on the book, held it open by one hand on a flat surface. I flipped the pages with that hand and tripped the shutter with the other. After about 50 pages, the camera's sensing element overheated & the camera had to sit & cool off for about 20 minutes before it could be used again. Overheating of the sensing element in a digital camera is possible with any of them, this is the first time it happened to me. I really don't need the megapixels the D3100 supplied, much less those supplied by a D3200.

We have processed over 40,000 pages with two D3200 cameras, they have performed admirably throughout, sometimes in use 8hrs a day 5 days a week, I must try and get a decent photo sample and upload

Hello, xeviousx. I am considering D3200 (or D5200) for my first DIY Book Scanner (using the official kit). Can you share more about your D3200 set-up, any tips/tricks/headaches, etc.? How do you trigger (IR ML-L3 or WR-R10/WR-T10)? Do you power via AC adapter? How do you transfer images to a computer (manual, Eye-Fi, ...)? Is a motion-detection trigger possible for the D3200?

Thanks very much!
