usb remote with HTC USB Splitter

Post by Konos93a »

hello
i build a diybookscanner and use it with raspberry pi running piscan controlling two canon A3300 but stuck after 200 pages . it subwork with these cameras and in the best conditions i scan almost 900 pages per hour .

before some days build a usb remote and it works . it is stable and 1250 pages per hour but i cant know if camera point in the middle of the pages. that can be solved if i use two old tv and have video and usb remote at the same time.

so i bought 2 htc usb splitter , here i have stuck and need some help .

http://www.achillies.com/CHDK_Files/USB_Splitter.htm

i have cut wires S,5,6,7,8,9,10,11

i connect the camera to extusb and usb-b to extusb and captured a photo. how can i conncect the wires to have video . i only want to use a single video cable. i dont need audio. i want the easiest connection .dont care if i have only liveview and usb remote

I'm a bit confused because if you have your USB splitter working to trigger the cameras, you don't need to also use it for video.

Your best bet is to use the A/V cables that came with the cameras to directly plug each one into its own TV. Each camera has one A/V cable that connects to one TV.

That will give you a live preview of the book and a trigger and then the only tricky part is getting the photos off of the cameras and collating the images properly.

the problem is that A/V cable cant trigger the camera. and if i use them to see where the the camera point and then use usb-b the camera will move a little bit .so the camera wont point in the middle of the page.and my scanner has asymmetry , so book ,as i change pages and with the up and downs moves . the liveview or reviewing images is necessary.

The audio signals are on the ORANGE and YELLOW wires in the splitter. If you aren't going to output the audio via an RCA cable then I'd suppose that you don't connect them to anything.

I've made one of these for a Canon Elph 160, but I had video and audio RCA cable outputs, just as the author of that webpage has described.

That is odd. The manual showed a separate port for an A/V composite connector on the A3300. Double check to see if that exists. If so, you should be able to plug in an A/V composite-to-element cable as well as USB at the same time.

If not, then possible workarounds might be:

(1) Putting a guide on your cradle so that you can make sure to keep the book in the same position each time.
(2) Zoom out so that you are capturing the whole platen. Then use fiducial markers and marker-crop so that you can see visually where things will crop as you scan and can adjust the fiducial markers if necessary.

Hi Jonathon,
The A3300 User Manual (PDF) mentions that this camera requires the AVC-DC400 Video Output cable. Any camera that uses that cable has the special 11-pin mini-USB connector that supports audio/video output as well as USB data.

Here's a list of Canon cameras that use the AVC-DC400 cable:

EOS:

Rebel T1i

PowerShot:

ELPH 150 IS, SX200 IS, SD960 IS, SX500 IS, ELPH 110 HS, A3100 IS, ELPH 150 IS, A3300 IS, A1000 IS, A2000 IS, SD1300 IS, E1, ELPH 350 HS, A810, A1300, A2300, A2400 IS, A4000 IS, SX110 IS, ELPH 170 IS, ELPH 100 HS, SD1400 IS, SX610 HS, SD780 IS, D10, SD1200 IS, A3400 IS, SD990 IS Digital ELPH, SD880 IS, A3500 IS, A3000 IS, SD890 IS Digital ELPH, A2500, SD970 IS, SX410 IS, SD790 IS Digital ELPH, SD3500 IS, SX400 IS, A2100 IS, ELPH 340 HS, SD770 IS Digital ELPH, ELPH 140 IS, SX120 IS, S90, G11, A1100 IS, ELPH 135, D20, A1400, ELPH 160
