I'm building my own book scanner; it's coming along very well, but I haven't mounted lighting yet, and have a question about mounting lighting.
I see a lot of comments about reflections, but why do people mount lights directly over the glass? Why not just mount the lights to the sides of the platen so the main reflection off the glass would miss the camera? Am I missing something?
Granted, I have not tried it yet, so I may be missing something simple.

In http://diybookscanner.org/forum/viewtop ... =17&t=1149 in the last of the videos in Daniels original post there's some good observations about where to put the light. It was extremly helpful for me to understand the optimal setup.

Nice! Thanks for the tip; the videos were helpful, and thank you, Daniel, for them.
