GIMP and DESKEW... wow

Post by pfarber »

If you use gimp there was a plugin written in 2008 called 'deskew'.

I got it running on my SLACKWARE 13.37 system and it is QUICK and ACCURATE.

Here is a before:

And AFTER: The canvas is showing through on the corners... and this was about 3 seconds of processing on a grayscale TIFF image

GIMP can be set up to batch the files and run without interaction :)

Can't edit posts?

Ignore the MIDDLE image... the first and last ones show the before and after.

The only option I have is 'Report' and 'Quote' at the top.

If you are having permission problems log in an administrator, go to the ACP, select the Permissions tab, then the Permissions Mask in the lower right. That will show you what permissions are available, and how they are inherited by user, group, forum etc.

You'll figure it out once you punch in a couple different items.

Helped me a lot to figure out what was blocking an attribute that I set, yet did not 'work'.

grr, yet another PHPBB crazy-deep menu. But that was really helpful, thanks! I think you should have an edit button now.

As long as you're helping me out in this capacity, do you have any ideas on improving our forum search? I'd like to just replace the search box with a custom Google Search, but my attempts so far have been pretty crappy.

phpBB3 search is a basic text search... so yeah, its kinda poor.

Only advice I can offer is to use the google site: search, but I don't know if there is a direct plugin for phpbb3

But from google if you enter:

site:diybookscanner.org deskew

It will limit search results to the domain after 'site'.

There is a mod you can do:

pfarber,
I was able to get deskew working for me (works quite well actually - tks !!) - do you know how to run it as a batch process rather than interactively ?

try http://registry.gimp.org/node/2958

or you may have better luck with imagemagick which also has deskew functions.
