Differnt text area size in odd and even pages

Post by ssmdiy »

I'm using Scan Tailor followed by Abbyy and seeing that the text area in the odd pages are larger than the even ones (or vice versa). The output looks as if the even pages are zoomed out more than the odd. I'm using two cameras for the odd and even (they're both the same make and model). Is there a way for Scan Tailor to output consistently sized content regions?

Here's my workflow:
1) Scan with two cameras. Odd and even pages go into separate directories.
2) Run Scan Tailor on odd
3) Run Scan Tailor on even
4) Combine all pages into one directory.
5) Run Abbyy on all pages

Thanks very much.

Just to make I understand the problem correctly: In the original book the text area is the same on even and odd pages?

If that's the case the problem should be solved by giving ScanTailor the correct DPI for even and odd pages and the problem should be solved.

Yes it's the same size in the original text. I did (I thought) do 600dpi for both pages in Scan Tailor. Could it be that if you manually increase the text area in ST (because the automatic method missed part of the text) then it might make the text smaller to keep the same margins for all the pages?

I should have been clearer: The input DPI should be different.

The problem is with the workflow.

What you should do is the following:

1. rotate odd and even pages with something like Phatch: http://photobatch.stani.be/, which allows you to process a lot of photos in one step.
2. rename them and put them in a single directory
3. process them with scantailor.

The problem is that when you run the "select content" option in ST, it doesn't put the same frame for all the photos, that's the reason why you get different sizes for odd/even pages. I had the same problem as you and then I rearranged my workflow in the way I'm describing it and it worked.
