Just curious - what can you do with a laser cutter that you can't do with some other tool (like a good jigsaw, for example)? Is it mainly used to cut armor plating, or perform self-cauterizing surgery, or what?

Re: LASER CUTTER!!!
spamsickle -- i'll answer you in detail later. actually it sucks at armor piercing, generally, it's better at piercing things like cardboard and making very accurate plastic bits. basically, if you can make it in a vector or raster graphics package, you can print it out of structural materials like acrylic sheet, cardboard, wood, etc.
i haven't even taken it out of the box yet, and i'm totally in heaven. I LOVE THIS THING

Re: LASER CUTTER!!!
What would be kinda cool and synergistic is if you can think of some clever parts for BookScanner v.4.0 that can be made in bulk with the Epilog, and then sold (like the electronics kits) for profit that continues to fund the development of the BooSca...
What sort of input does the Epilog take? CorelDRAW? AutoCAD? SolidWorks? (All things I'm good at...)

Re: LASER CUTTER!!!
I wonder if it can bevel cut as well as straight.

karyudo, I'm thinking in those terms, too, so let me know if you come up with anything.
this is a pretty basic cutter -- it can't cut angled lines in Z.
