Would anyone prefer these to be wall-powered (220 or 120) vs. battery powered?

(says the guy who just bought a ton of battery packs...)

I just bought enough parts to make 15 of these, battery powered. 3 are spoken for. I will update this thread when the parts arrive and produce them shortly after.

I would. The unit I'm constructing has a powerstrip for driving the cameras and lights, adding one in for the trigger would be nice.

Yours will be. If others want a unit with a wall supply, they'll have to let me know in advance...

Put me down for one. I'd prefer a wall plug but I don't care considering you bought the battery packs. What type of batteries should I pick up to prep for when I get it shipped to me?

Cool. They are powered by 3AA batteries. I don't mind making you a wall-wart supply as well, but it might take me a bit to find some 5V power supplies. Let me search eBay a bit and see what I can find. I'll report back here.

Just for everyone's information, the battery powered versions are in principle a bit safer -- insensitive to power spikes, or to catastrophic failure of their little power supplies. And you can expect 3 alkaline AA batteries to last essentially forever, as the cameras will trigger down to around 3.5v. Should take years to trigger that many times.

I don't mean in any way to inspire fear or anything -- far from it -- and wall-adapter versions are actually a bit easier for me to make, but I will not be buying anyone new cameras if a meteor strikes your book scanner or a power surge blows up a little 5v supply or something. :)

Yep those were mostly my concerns.. thinking about it I'd prefer the battery packs now because you answered all my concerns already.. and then who knows with power supplies and I plan on maybe eventually making the setup automated if its possible... wouldn't want to leave the place with it plugged in and going by itself. I should be able to change it over by myself if i end up preferring the plug for whatever reason.

Wow, I never realized Google was so intent on keeping their lead . . .

Who knew 5v power supplies were so dangerous? :D

I would like to put my name down for one of these if you still have one available. Battery powered will work for me.

Thanks.
