Cutter

Hi,

I live in Germany and I am looking for a safe book cutter. Has anyone an idea? In the moment I use a roll slitter which cuts 20 pieces at one time. Is there any better alternative, which handles 50 or 100 pages? I don´t want guillotines, because I don´t see so good and I want to all my fingers :-) Or are there other possibilities to cut the pages?

Thanks a lot!

I'm currently using a small scissor with extreme cutting power, something similar to this https://www.amazon.com/Joyce-Chen-51-06 ... issors#Ask It is probably better than what you use now. But of course the edges won't be very clean and even. The photos will need cropping afterwards.

But regarding a guillotine; It's not needed to put fingers anything near the cutting blade.

Some guillotines have protection, like the one I'm using:

https://www.amazon.de/Dahle-Hebel-Schne ... =dahle+561

However it is only rated up to 35 sheets. Bigger ones are more expensive, although you can get cheap used ones.

I use a heat gun to heat the glue in the bookspine and then gently remove the pages. Afterwards I trim off the uneven, glued edges with the guillotine. This leaves the cover intact. If you have poor sight this might not be the best way to do it, since you can burn yourself with the heatgun if you're not careful. Other downsides to this method are:

1. Melted glue gets on some of the pages as you are removing them. If there is a lot of glue it can become a bit of a mess and you might need to reheat the glue to wipe it off the pages.
2. Takes more time than just chopping off the spine.
3. Edges of pages can be damaged when you try to remove them
4. Cover plastic can become loose if you heat it too much

I've heard of people heating the book in a microwave and then removing the pages, but I like to keep my books and food separate.

You might look into the possibility of going to a copy shop that has a serious guillotine able to cut thick stacks of pages, or possibly even complete books cleanly: I was interested in scanning a large number of magazines a while back, and a local copy shop could have guillotined them for me for a fairly small sum as the process is quick.

Hi, thanks for your help!

I´ll look at your proposals, maybe I can get it at amazon germany.

I am scanning the book covers, then I remove the book covers. So it is easier only to cut the pages. I have a lot of stuff, so I don´t like to make the copy shop rich :-)

Merrry christmas to all!
