EyeWire is a project which aims to map the neurons and connections between neurons in the retina. A volume of retina is sliced into thin slices by an ultramicrotome and then imaged using an electron microscope. An AI guesses at how to trace neurons through the volume, but it isn't very good. So, the good people at MIT have set up a human computation game to let people all over the world help map the neurons and their connections.
The result of this will be the first full map of the retina, which directly affects how OCR can be improved. Join the game and help!
