ted talk: diy hardware as a "starter kit for civilization"
I thought folks on this list might be interested in a heart-warming 4-minute TED talk by a fusion-energy physicist-turned-farmer describing a very DIY Book Scanner -like effort to open-source design what he identified as the 50 machines needed to run a civilization. Spoiler fact: his community has designed 8 of them so far.

Re: ted talk: diy hardware as a "starter kit for civilizatio
Awesome talk, thanks for the pointer. I've wanted to do the same thing for a machine shop, starting with basic hand tools, but this is much more laudable.
