SpreadPi: The new DIY Book Scanner control system.
I'm extremely proud to show you this preview of what might be the biggest thing to happen to DIY Book Scanning since the advent of cheap cameras: Johannes Baiter's SpreadPi.
If you're interested in trying this out, you will need a Raspberry Pi and Canon Powershot A2200 or Powershot A1400IS cameras. We're looking for someone skilled in Python to write an interface for other cameras, detailed here.

Great video Daniel, thank you so much for taking the time
Just two minor remarks:
Just two minor remarks:
- The main repository for spreads is DIYBookScanner/spreads, not jbaiter/spreads. The latter has not been updated in quite a while
- The time between the triggering of a capture and the display of the view images in the application can be greatly reduced by using a faster SD-Card in the Raspberry Pi. I myself use a Class10 card that achives ~20mb/s and while it's still not instantaneous, it matches my scanning speed (~1400 pages/hour) quite well so I don't have to wait for review images before triggering another shot.

Thanks, jbaiter, should have cleared it with you first. I'll make some comments on the YT video in the next day or so to be sure people understand.

Hi!
I take care of the raspberry pi build (spreadpi) and the http://buildbot.diybookscanner.eu build infrastructure. Any issues with those, don't hesitate to contact me.
Regards,
Mark

This is so fantastic. I've been daydreaming about the potential for Raspberry Pi + Spreads + DIY Scanner, and you guys went ahead and did it! I just picked up two A1400s and I'll let you know how it goes.

Great news! FYI the buildbot is being repaired right now- be sure to check in when you get your stuff and we'll get you the latest image.

This is so cool! I have not been able to get a fast enough SD card yet but will test as soon as I get one

OK, I have all the requisite pieces, but the "latest image" link is still broken. I grabbed the most recent image from buildbot (Apr 24) to play with, but if you have a more recent one, that would be great.
Thanks,

Hi,
The latest one (April 24) has some problems that I am still investigating. I fixed this temporarily for you by pointing spreadpi_latest.img.gz to an older build.
