split imeages

Post by XshulderX »

Hi I'm about to build my first bookscanner. I will try to build something like the booksaver: http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=da&sa=X ... ,s:0,i:108

now my question is, when I've build it what software can I use to split the imeages into 2 pages?

hello XshulderX, I don't think you need to build one, because there is a similar product available in China currently. It is about 150 US dollars. But the cameras are only 5MP, I don't think it's enough to use for OCR. Anyway, I hope you can build yours.
Here is the link to the similar product for Book saver.

ScanTailor is the answer.

Not very many designs do 2 pages in 1 image, but if you look through the build threads for these, you will find some good advice on the issues they face.

That $150 off the shelf unit is probably garbage. I very much recommend against it.

yeah, that product is garbage, I just get a sample image from the seller, the quality is really suck. The images look like come from 2MP web camera.

It's very useful to post sample images from the device, can you please do that for us when you have time, Tan?

The image quality does not scare me, however... Do I see correctly that the scanner offered at taobao does not have a platen? Does that mean that it could only scan thin magazines or do they have a solution to focusing?
Thanks for posting that!

Yes, they have platen, the seller didn't use the platen because of he/she didn't know how to use this kind of scanner, but the video on the website show the correct way.
