Catapult's aluminum build

Built a scanner? Started to build a scanner? Record your progress here. Doesn't need to be a whole scanner - triggers and other parts are fine. Commercial scanners are fine too.

Catapult's aluminum build

Post by Catapult »

Working on building this as the parts come in. Almost all of the parts are made to order from Misumi.
The CAD work is a bit sloppy since I was a bit short on time and I've only recently learned Inventor. I would appreciate any feedback
Acknowledgements go to davidlandin for his design

Is the attachment an Inventor file? Thanks for sharing with us! Any chance you could post a screenshot or something for those of us without a copy of Inventor?'

A 3D model of one of the Landin machines would be really neat. Thanks for starting this.

You can view it in your browser here http://www.3dvieweronline.com/share/fdd ... TNEgR.html

There is also a free viewer for download here if you don't have Inventor http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc ... d=21478051

Thanks - I really like the feel of what you're doing. Can you get the aluminum with a black anodized coating? It would save you a lot of painting work.

Yes although it is a bit expensive. Should I paint it? I was just going to leave it bare.

Yeah, I think you should paint it, but it might not all need to be painted. Go ahead and build it without painting and you will see where you need to paint things black to remove glare.

Assembled the frame today, very easy to do since all the parts were made-to-order. Only tool used was a hex wrench.

To do:
  • Drill holes for tripod mount
    Drill holes in acylic
    Bend T-brackets to accommodate platen
    Buy corner brackets for platen
    Put washers in various places
    Put threadlocker in various places
    Thread rod
    Build book platform

aww SWEET an update! Thank you!

Tough to tell from the pictures - is the piece holding the camera mounts a 45 degree extrusion, or is it a 90 degree extrusion that is tilted somehow?

I also like how you put the sheet of paper with your name/build in the photograph directly. If people did that here, it would be easier for outsiders to figure out where threads/builds are and who did what and etc.

It's a 45 degree extrusion. http://us.misumi-ec.com/vona2/detail/11 ... 70/?Inch=0 Not ideal, but it's an easy solution for starting out.
